It's Cool, but is it a Good Idea? (Meta-Post)

This isn't your regularly scheduled (yeah, okay, that joke's getting old) update. That'll be up either later today, or sometime tomorrow, depending on how the day goes. No, this is another post about the blog itself. I ran across an interesting peice of technology yesterday: Plurn. (Big thanks, by the way, to Ser Nigolos over at Undead Karma for the indirect link, and Andrew over at 4th Avenue Blues for the direct link.) I've set up a trial run over at my new workshop if you want to check it out.

And now I find myself with a bit of a conundrum: I'd kinda like to put one up here, but there are a few things that make me hesitate. For one, I'm from the old-skool of webpage design: putting music or moving graphics on your page is like taking your cat for a walk on a leash; sane people avoid it, and those who actually do it are looked upon by the rest of society with scorn and some measure of pity. And also, I'm leery about adding too many gadgets and gizmos. I want to keep this place as friendly and accessible as possible; I'd rather it be my opinions that drive people away, not my webpage.

On the other hand, though, it would occaisionally be handy to be able to point y'all to a peice of music without having to provide download links. I dunno. Anybody out there in internet-land have any opinions on the matter? If nothing else, it'll stay up at the Workshop for a while, so go check it out, then come back and drop me a line. See yas.

Hard call - but one of the nice things about this place is that for the most part it's code player friendly (just remember to back up your side bar before you get in too deep - learned that one the hard way).

If you decide it's doesn't fit in with what you want it's an easy delete.

Another option might be to take advantage of Google Labs Page Creator

https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=pages&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fpages.google.com%2F<mpl=yessignups

and create a webpage to set the player up on and just reference it in your posts.

Hmmm.... Actually what I had thought to do, unless someone really wanted music here (to drown out the whining, maybe?) was to just leave the player up at the Workshop and point to it there any time I felt it necessary there be music.

But, a seperate page just for the player might not be a bad idea, since the Workshop may not be the most reliable location. The only problem I can see is B/W issues. After all not everyone can be as stu... *ahem* ...generous as Fileden.

Actually, I've just had a thought. Hmm....

(And on a completely unrelated note, have I ever mentioned how ridiculous it is that I have to verify to post in my own freakin' blog...?)
